Hair Conditioners
Hair conditioners are a must these days, especially for nourishing the dry and damaged hair. It not only makes the hair soft, but also nourishes the hair, making it shine and easy to manage and comb. It reduced the dryness of the hair, brings a bounce and protects it from damage. For best results hair conditioners should be used after every wash.
However it is important to note that hair conditioners should be applied only on the tips of the hair, not on the root, as it could damage the hair, since it contains chemicals. After shampooing the hair, conditioner should be left on for at least five minutes, following a thorough wash, for best results.
Different categories of Hair conditioners
Hair conditioners are divided into six major categories:
- Moisturizers, which contain the compound Humectants that moisturizes the hair by keeping the natural oils intact.
- Acidifiers, every product should contain about 2 to 3 pH of acid. These acids protect the hair and bring a shine and bounce to it, making it feel light and manageable.
- Detanglers also contain acid, to protect the cuticles of the hair from getting entangled or coarse.
- Reconstructors have protein making the hair soft, smooth and healthy. It rebuilds the damaged hair.
- Thermal protectors protect the hair from the harsh rays of the sun or heat from blow driers, preventing damage and keeping the hair healthy.
- Glossers bring a shine to the hair, making it reflect light and feel comfortable. It is an excellent frizz control. Oils are important for dry hair, providing the required nourishment.
Hair conditioners for different hair types
There are various types of hair conditioners, namely for dry or damaged hair, coarse or curly hair, limp or oily hair, and permed or coloured hair. People who have dried, damaged, curly or coarse hair should use conditioners generously, to smoothen the hair and moisturize it. It is important for them to moisturize their hair with creamy conditioners, as they hold humectants which are compounds to keep the moisture intact in the hair, which prevents damage.

People with limp or oily hair should apply oil absorbing tea-tree conditioners which reduce the oil, making the hair light and bringing a shine to it. However, conditioners aren’t necessary for people with oily hair; they should use a minimum amount and apply it only on the tips of the hair for a short span of time.

People with processed hair, for example coloured, straightened or permed hair, should use rich hair conditioners as their hair needs nourishment which has been removed due to colouring or perming. Conditioners containing silicon should be avoided, as they strip the colour from the hair.
